DaKetia LaVette Thomas is the CEO of D. LaVette Therapies LLC located in Atlanta, GA. Key is a nickname given by clients, friends and family after discovering abilities to educate and help others obtain optimal health through unlocking knowledge in Eastern and Western Medicine. Understanding the importance of educating individuals, communities and organizations in stress management, mindfulness, health and wellness. Growing up entailed exposure to being a leader and becoming disciplined in helping others be the best they can be through the exemplary actions of parents and mentors.

 

Key has instructed holistic classes in relaxation, step aerobics, water aerobics, physical fitness, racquet sports, weight training, holistic health and massage therapy at Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo Community College; both located in Kalamazoo, MI. In addition, a former Advanced Massage Therapy Instructor and Spa Scheduler for Students at Sanford Brown, Elaine Sterling, International School of Skin and Nails (ISSN) over the course of 10 years. She has obtain a Masters of Science in Sports Medicine, Summer 2015 and a second Masters of Arts in Organizational Leadership obtained, Spring 2016. Key holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER), Major in Exercise Science, Minor in Business Management and a graduate certificate in Holistic Health from Western Michigan University, a National Certification in Bodywork and Massage Therapy, a certificate in Chi Gong and a variety of continuing education. Key is focused in professionally in creating individual and corporate wellness programs, advance train students, faculty and staff in mindfulness and stress relief; as well as, facilitating workshops to individuals, small groups, communities and organizations on the importance of self-love and self-care.

 

Summer (2014) Key studied abroad in Beijing, China at the Beijing Sports University (BSU); training site for peak performing athletes performing in the Olympics. She gave presentations at the Beijing, China high schools and colleges on exercise physiology-sports medicine, chi gong and holistic health while also learning more of the eastern culture on her visit. She now trains and develops staff at D. LaVette Therapies in order to provide consistency in services rendered in both Eastern (Holistic) and Western (Sports) Medicine. Key has vowed to bring Eastern (Holistic) modalities and holistic education form Beijing, China in order to help individuals in the states learn and understand the importance of incorporating zen and peace within their day to day. 

 

Her educational path was primarily taken to: learn how to deal with her own stresses, improve and maintain health and wellness and how to write wellness programs for self and individuals.  Through her journey she feels she has been blessed with learning, understanding and delivering key principles and strategies to help others engage in alternative ways to cope with stress, engage in fitness and selecting healthier food options, as well as decreasing muscle tension.
